Miami

The City of Miami, known as the ‘Magic City’, is located in Southeast Florida, in Miami-Dade County on the Miami River, between the Florida Everglades and the Atlantic Ocean. Since its incorporation in 1896, the city has grown tremendously, transforming into one of the world’s renowned centres of commerce and one of the hottest holiday destinations in the country.

Miami is the Mecca for entertainment and recreation. Thousands of tourists flock every year to enjoy this magical city and it’s vibrant nightlife. Huge nightclubs and louche bars are everywhere along Miami’s South Beach, drawing a diverse crowd of glitterati and bohemian hipsters.

With year round sunshine and glorious stretches of white sand beaches, the ethos in Miami is certainly focused less on work and more on play. Watersports and beach activities prove very popular including kite-surfing, surfing, parasailing, scuba diving, fishing, swimming with dolphins, and jet skiing to name but a few.

Miami has a character all of it’s own setting it apart from any other place in America. The people are friendly, if not a little eccentric, comprising of a diverse cross-section of cultures and nationalities. A heavy Latin American influence is coupled with a carefree Caribbean atmosphere within a gorgeous tropical setting.

There is a multitude of attractions that will attempt to pry holidaymakers from the beaches and clubs. Just next door lie the Everglades, one of the most dramatic and unique eco-systems in the U.S., while the glamour of Fort Lauderdale draws droves of tourists northward.

Effortlessly cool, impossibly beautiful and terrific fun, Miami’s atmosphere is as sunny as it’s skies.

South Beach
Explore the glitz and glamour of Miami’s über-chic South Beach, an area synonymous with celebrities, wild clubs and, of course, the gorgeous beach. South Beach is a thriving cosmopolitan centre filled with designer shops, excellent restaurants and decadent nightclubs. The area also boasts a striking art-deco district where splendid pastel buildings glow under the neon lights. Tourists can explore this architectural marvel via guided or unguided tours.

Little Havana
When Fidel Castro took power in 1959, thousands of refugees fled from Cuba to the nearby city of Miami and settled in the area now known as Little Havana. Today this colourful district has a population of 800,000 people, creating an authentically Cuban atmosphere complete with small cigar factories, Cuban cafés and roadside food stalls. Restaurants serve up traditional Cuban dishes while the jazz and salsa bars dole out some authentically Cuban drinks.

Explore the Everglades
Just outside Miami lies an incredibly unique ecosystem a subtropical wilderness teeming with fascinating wildlife including American crocodiles, bottlenose dolphins, bald eagles and ospreys. Amongst the endless mangroves, the twisiting island trees and the lush cypress there is ample opportunity for fun, including hiking, kayaking, boating, waterskiing and fishing.

Tourist Attractions
There is an almost endless array of tourist activities and entertainment on offer in Miami, from historical insights to family fun. The Miami Seaquarium is one of the the city’s premiere attractions, housing over 10,000 sea creatures including crocodiles, alligators, seals and fish of every description. The whale shows should not be missed. The Miami Metro Zoo is a modern cageless zoo, with animals from more than 300 species roaming the huge grounds, separated by moats from spectators. There are plenty of other wonderful tourist attractions to be found including excellent museums, planetariums and water parks.
